Oscar®-winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr. comes from a musical family. His father, Cuba Gooding, was an R&B singer who, with the group The Main Ingredient, had a hit with "Everybody Plays the Fool," while his mother, Shirley, was a backup singer with The Sweethearts. After studying martial arts, Gooding Jr. began his acting career. His breakout, Oscar®-winning role came in 1996 with Cameron Crowe's Jerry Maguire, opposite Tom Cruise and Renee Zellweger. The role also won him a slew of other awards, including a SAG Award, an American Comedy Award and a Satellite Award, as well as nominations for a Golden Globe®, an NAACP Image Award and many others.
